About Leaf & Grain

Our Story

Leaf & Grain was started in Houston in 2016, but our story starts in 2006.

Our founder, Deets, was so obsessed with restaurants in high school that his friends put “Owner of a chain of sandwich shacks” in the “In 20 Years” section of his yearbook. The landscape has shifted (salads aren’t sandwiches), but the broader dream remained intact.

In 2017, we opened the first L&G on the 4th floor of a 1970s downtown mall. For better or worse, we had lines out the door from day one, and for 2 years, we were constantly playing catch-up. In 2019, we finally hit our stride.

Then, the skybridge that connects us to our customers closed for almost a year… Thanks to a dedicated group of customers, we survived, and in March 2020, the skybridge re-opened. Two weeks later, the pandemic hit, and downtown emptied overnight.

Well, we’re still here, and we’re more committed than ever to making Leaf & Grain go the distance. We started with the mission of building Leaf & Grain into a 100-year company, and that guides all of our decision making. It’s a commitment to quality, to taking care of our team, and to always doing the right thing, even when it’s painful or costly.
